Hospital Heritage

City West Specialist Day Hospital has evolved from a small freestanding day surgery – known as City West Day Surgery - to a state-of-the-art specialist hospital.

In the 1990s, gastroenterologists Dr Peter Gillespie and Dr Stephen Williams saw Westmead as the ideal spot for an efficient and friendly day surgery. It was what the community needed, given long waiting lists at Westmead Public before Westmead Private was built.

They purchased an old house at 30 Mons Road. Westmead was still a residential area, free from commercial developments. Other partners soon joined the surgery, including Dr Geoff Driscoll, who ran the leading IVF clinic in Sydney’s west.

The surgery soon outgrew its small premises, so in 2009 we partnered with Virtus Health to extend the building. This involved hiring an expert medical clinic architect to redesign the hospital.

In April 2013, City of Parramatta Lord Mayor John Chedid officially opened our refurbished, state-of-the-art surgery. We welcome you to experience surgical excellence in our caring and comfortable hospital.

City West Specialist Day Hospital publishes it’s Quality Policy, recognising the need to deliver services to patients, referring doctors and all other customers at a consistently high level of quality that reliably meets and exceeds their expectations.
